This is an important, usually diagnostic and in some instances therapeutic, procedure to improve fertility. It is performed as a diagnostic procedure for women where there is doubt about the patency of the Fallopian tubes. It can also be used as therapeutic procedure for instance, for surgical treatment (Drilling) of polycystic ovaries where medical treatment with fertility drugs fails to induce ovulation.
The procedure usually involves introduction of a telescope (Camera) through the belly button to be able to see the insides of the pelvis an abdomen i.e. Uterus, ovaries and tubes ….. etc.
This technique requires general anesthesia and usually performed as a day surgery operation.
